Below is a list of just some of the wonderful things we’ve done for the students of L.E.S. over the years, and we’ll keep adding to it for years to come!
Class Field Trips
Each year, FOLES devotes most of its fundraising efforts towards covering the cost of bus transportation so that every class can enjoy at least one field trip during the school year.
Without FOLES’ fundraising efforts, these class field trips wouldn’t be available, as school budgets don’t cover this kind of activity.
In 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, FOLES’ contribution was $4,800 per year. (Transportation costs average $300 per class, for 16 classes in total.)
FOLES believes that field trips are educational experiences that enrich learning and provide students with special, exciting memories that last forever. These field trips help make school fun, and students look forward to them every year.
Other Transportation Costs
FOLES covers the cost of transportation for the Cross-Country Running Team so that students in the team can attend the yearly race. In 2014. 2015, 2016, and 2017, this amount was $600.
FOLES funds the cost of all the bus transportation to an activity for Carnival Day each year in February, such as downhill skiing or tubing. This amount is $2,400.
FOLES raised approximately $25,000 from 1999 to 2007, thanks to proceeds from its annual Golf Tournament. Along with a financial contribution from the City of Lachute, FOLES was able to purchase new, modern and safe playground equipment, naturalize the playground with trees, and carry out some landscaping for a more attractive area.
In 2018, FOLES will raise $15,000 to upgrade and purchase even more playground equipment, and are hoping for a an equal-amount contribution from the city of Lachute or school board.
Over the years, FOLES has donated $2,500 to the Music Department of the school, for new instrument purchases and repairs.
The xylophones we’ve purchased are used at almost every performance at the school, and children use them while learning how to read music.
In 2017, FOLES contributed an additional $486 to the Music Department to further help purchase and maintain musical instruments.
FOLES donated $3,400 for 4 new laptops, and plans to purchase at least 20 more in the fall season of 2014, with the hopes of replacing every single computer in the school with new, up-to-date equipment within a year.
In May of 2015, FOLES purchased 17 iPads, 25 laptops, two mobile charging cart and a Mac computer, for a total contribution of $29,235, making LES one of the most technologically advanced schools in the region!
In May of 2016, FOLES also contributed $6,000 towards the installation of SMART boards in classrooms.
Arts and Culture
FOLES contributes to a yearly cultural art activity that involves all students in the school. This contribution ranges between $400 and $700, depending on the chosen activity.
In 2016, FOLES contributed $935 towards binding expenses for a book-making project, in which students literally created their very own book, including illustrations and content. They were extremely proud of their hard work!
Each year, FOLES also offers an Art Award ($50) at the end-of-year ceremonies, to encourage budding artists and creative expression in students.
And with so many students using them, FOLES covered the cost of having all the Library bean bag chairs repaired and restuffed in 2015.
Other Cool and Fun Stuff
- Donation of $1,000 for new floor mats for the gymnasium, and in 2016, FOLES contributed $313 to the Phys Ed Department for new pinnies.
- Donation for the yearly Fun Day, held in June, where all students get to enjoy a day of… well, fun! Amounts over the years have varied between $250 for popsicles and $2,500 for bouncy games, depending on the treat we funded. In 2017, the amount was $585, split between Fun Day expenses and the cost of hiring a rather excellent magician!
- Organize, shop for produce, prepare, cook and serve in our yearly Nutritious Breakfast even. Held in March over a period of 3 days, every single student gets to enjoy a nutritious, delicious and healthy breakfast that includes scrambled eggs, muffins, bagels, fruit, cheese, yogurt, and juice.
